Obituary of Robert O. Bremer

Robert O. "Bob" Bremer 89, of Carlinville, passed away Thursday morning, March 15, 2012 at Carlinville Area Hospital. Bob was born April 20, 1922 in Hillsboro, IL, the son of Carroll and Hannah (Lapp) Bremer. Bob married Geraldine L. Baughman on May 21, 1943 in DuQuoin. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2008. Bob graduated from DuQuoin High School where he was an accomplished percussionist and placed furst in the National Music Contest. Bob served in the Army-Air Force during WWII and played with the military band. He worked for Woolworth's in DuQuoin, IL for some time and in 1949 became the manager of Ozark 5 & 10 in Steeleville, IL. Bob then moved to Carlinville in 1952 to work for Walker's Stores. He and his wife, Geraldine bought the business and eventually owned 3 variety stores in Carlinville and Virden. In later working years, the couple operated Bremer's Office Supply. For many years Bob enjoyed flying private planes with family and friends. Bob was a member of Carlinville United Methodist Church, serving with his wife as treasurer for 25 years, member of Methodist Men, Carlinville Lions Club beginning in 1948 for over 60 years, serving as president in 1963-64 and was a Foundation Fellow in 1998, Variety Distributors Board of Directors and President, 1963-64. Ansar Shrine, Mt Nebo Lodge, the Shrine Band, as well as playing in the Carlinville Municipal Band for many years. Bob is survived by his daughter, Nina Craine (William); son, Robert Bremer, Jr. (Kimberly); grandchildren, Amy Norton, Mitchell Bremer & Kamryn Bremer; great grandson, John Norton and several nieces & nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Hannah Bremer; wife, Geraldine L. Bremer; brothers Charles M. Bremer and Rev. Carroll Russell Bremer. Funeral Information Friends will be received Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, IL. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m.March 19, 2012 at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Sabo officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
