Condolences
I was sad to see your father's obituary. The pastfew months there have been too many people I know who have passed away including my mother in August. My mother thought he was one of the best (if not the best) superintendent under whom she served. You know how high her standards were. He was always kind to my father and me when we tagged along to the million of school functions. My parents enjoyed visiting, writing to, and hearing from both your mother and father. I remember your dad coming to grade school in Modesto. He was such an imposing and self-confident presence. Thank you for your kindness when my mother died. I hope you find solace in the memories and influence he left.
Myra Lee and Emily
Edith, Bonnie, and Julie, how long it has been! I remember vividly playing with you when we visited "Uncle Harry" down the road from your schoolhouse home that I thought was so neat. Little did I know then that I, too, would retire as a teacher from Carlinville. I fondly remember your dad in those early years, and again much later when I began teaching in Carlinville. Anytime I ran into your parents they would beam as they updated me on "their girls" and your accomplishments. Your dad was so proud of you three; what better legacy could there be?
I remember one night, in a land far away...there were several of us hooligans roaming Morse Cemetery, well after dark...we came across an area that was "glowing" and it basically, scared the hell out of us...not having the slighest idea of what it was, we went to Lester's house, kidnapped him, took him out to the Cemetery, where we got a late night science lesson on "Fox Fire"...(along with a moral lesson of some kind or another). I always liked Les, and will miss him...he was one of a kind and one of the best!
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Lester. I will always remember his visits with Grandpa Doug in Hannibal. You are all in my prayers.
We at Carlinville Rehab will greatly miss Lester. He was loved by all. Lester was a special man and will be greatly missed. There was nothing better than to walk in every morning to his smile, and hear him gossip with the boys. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
I am proud to say Lester Cox was my uncle and sad to learn of his passing.
We extend our sympathies in your loss. Les was always interesting to be around - his smile, his stories and his wit. Lives well lived, he and June.
Mr. Cox was my chemistry teacher and neighbor. I will always remember his dry humor and smile when he finished his joke or story. He always had the best looking tomatoes every year. He will be long remembered as one of the best teachers at CHS.
