Danny L. Fones, 76, of Carlinville, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at his home.

Danny was born May 2, 1948, in Carlinville, IL, a son of Glenn E. and Helen Spangler Fones.

He graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1966. He married Robin Rutherford December 8, 1972, in the Federated Church, Carlinville, IL.

Danny enlisted in the Army following high school graduation. He served his country from 1967-1969 as part of the First Cavalry in Vietnam. He was a radio/telephone operator in the field.

Danny worked at Monterey Coal Co. for twenty-three years, serving as a union employee and later as a Company employee and was a member of the UMWA. He then worked as a Water Plant Operator for the City of Carlinville and was part of Local Alton 525. Dan was an 50-year member of American Legion Post 554, and a member of the Carlinville Rifle and Pistol Club. He loved to fish and hunt with his dad, brother, friends, and brother in law. He also enjoyed golf and playing cards.

Danny was preceded in death by his father, Glenn E. Fones, mother, Helen Fones, brother, Dude Fones, and brother in law, Kenny Hughes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Danny is survived by his wife, Robin Fones of Carlinville, IL, sister, Vicki Hughes of Carlinville, IL, brother, Jack (Diana) Schlamer of Carlinville, IL, several nieces and nephews, sister in law, Gay Rutherford of Little Rock, AR, 2 uncles, and several cousins.

Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Foundation or Macoupin County Animal Shelter.
