Betty June Moake, 80, of Carlinville, IL, formerly of Girard, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL. Betty was born January 11, 1944, in West Frankfort, IL, a daughter of Paul and Mary King Underwood. Betty graduated from Girard High School. She married Jim Gwillim on January 13, 1960 and they would later divorced. She married William Jack Moake on June 18, 1982, in Johnson City, IL. Betty was an avid plant lover, antique collector, and amazing in the kitchen. She tried everything in life she could, as a coal miner's daughter, she wanted family early and had her kids Scott, Shelly, Mickey, and John. She also wanted to be competitive in life and went to the Illinois State Police Academy in 1977 and then worked in Pontiac, Illinois. To make a better living and live back in southern Illinois, Betty took a job as an underground coal miner with Freeman United Coal Company. She then married Bill Moake and wanted a day job so she took employment with road construction, until moving to Florida where she could enjoy sunshine. There, Betty managed a nursery in Malabar, Florida. She enjoyed being Grandma Boogie and making holiday candies and cookies for the family. She never could pass and antique shop without dragging an item home. On any day she could be found in the yard or with plants inside. As well as refinishing furniture, the Jack of all trades and master on none, Betty was a artist in life with paints, flowers, and food. She will be missed by all her family and greeted by the rest in a better place. Rest in peace Wife, Mother, Grandma, and Friend. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, daughter; Shelly Allen, and 2 brothers. The family plans a Celebration of Life at a later date.
