Obituary of Steve J. Scott Sr.

Steve J. Scott Sr., 75, of Carlinville, IL, passed away on Sunday morning, September 15, 2024, at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL. Steve was born October 28, 1948, in Jerseyville, IL, a son of Steve and Charlotte (Coatney) Scott. Steve married Theresa Baker on November 15, 1986 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Carlinville. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Steve Scott, mother, Charlotte Scott, infant son, Mathew Scott, daughter, Karen Wiles, and longtime companion, Beverly Lash (mother of Steve Scott, Jr.) In early years Steve worked for various farmers in the area. Later on he opened his own tire shop business for 20 plus years with shops in Carlinville and Jerseyville area. Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing, working with his kids and grandkids and mushroom hunting. He loved spending time with family. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially getting them all wound up. Many nieces and nephews adopted him as grandpa. He loved having a house full of family. Steve is survived by his wife, Theresa Scott, son, Dwayne (Amy) Chism of Carlinville, IL, son, Steve (Natasha) Scott of MS, son, Damion (Darlene) Chism of TX, daughter, Jennifer (Jimmy) Kanz of MO, sister, Patsy (Calvin) Clark of Carlinville, IL, brother, Dennis (Debbie) Scott of TX, brother, Jim (Peggy) Scott of GA, sister, Edith (Doug) Cox of Shipman, IL, 20 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Cross Church, Carlinville. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Wrights, IL.
