Obituary of Griffin Wayne McGary

Griffin Wayne McGary, 26 of Virden, IL passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Griffin McGary, was the son of Dana Sweet-McGary of Pawnee, IL and Rob McGary of Meridian, ID. Griffin was born October 6, 1997. He was a huge Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals fan. In school, Griffin stayed active participating in football and track and field. He was employed at Dollar General where he was loved by his bosses and co-workers. In his free time, he loved watching sports games, spending time outside, and listening to music. He was a known prankster and always had a reason to laugh. Griffin is survived by both his mother and father, his step-mom Sharon Kaylor, older sister Tori (Nick) of New Bern, NC, two nephews Landon and Rowan Summer, one niece Layla Summer, maternal grandparents Fred and Bernice Sweet of Essex, IL, paternal grandmother Roberta Nall of Springfield, IL and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is proceeded in death by his paternal grandfather Marshall McGary. Visitation will take place Friday, April 12, at Cross Church, 1030 West Main St, Carlinville, IL at 2 pm. Funeral service will begin at 3 pm. with a meal at the church to follow. Griffin is survived by his mother, Dana Sweet-McGary of Pawnee, IL, father, Rob McGary of Meridian, ID, step-mother, Sharon Kaylor, sister, Tori (Nick) Summer of New Bern, NC, nephews, Landon and Rowan Summer, niece, Layla Summer, maternal grandparents, Fred and Bernice Sweet of Essex, IL, paternal grandmother, Roberta Nall of Springfield, IL, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorials may be made to the Griffin McGary Family. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, is in charge of arrangements.
