Judith "Judy" E. Gunning, 85 of Carlinville, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Carlinville Rehab and Health Care in Carlinville, IL.
Judy was born August 17, 1938, in Carlinville, IL, a daughter of Ralph Leslie and Forrest Fern (Caudle) Totsch. Judy graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1956. She married William "Bill" Howard Gunning, Sr., on June 29, 1957, in Hanna City, IL while Bill was on a 3-day pass. Their 66 year adventure together included 20 years of moving and living around the world while Bill served in the Air Force. They lived in Morocco and Germany. They also lived in Michigan, Massachusetts, Florida, Illinois, New York, and New Mexico. They returned to Carlinville following Bill's retirement from the Air Force in 1975. When Bill realized he needed to go back to school to learn a new career (nursing), Judy went to work at Betty's Tea Pot every morning at 3 AM to help pay the bills. Once Bill graduated, Judy was able to return to working her beloved flower gardens, spoiling her grandchildren, and Bill.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marvin Totsch, sister, Patricia Lou Crawford, brother, Kent Totsch, brother, Lyndal Totsch, brother, Gerald Totsch, and sister, Nancy Strohbeck.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Carlinville Methodist Church.
Funeral Service will follow at 11:00, with Reverend Jeremy Henson officiating.
Burial will follow in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville, IL.
Judy is survived by her husband, William Howard Gunning of Carlinville, IL, son, William Howard (Pat) Gunning, Jr. of Highland, IL, son, Donald Dean (Trish) Gunning of San Antonio, TX, daughter, April L. Beagles of Carlinville, IL, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, brother, Keith Totsch, brother, Leslie (Sherrill) Totsch of Carlinville, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Carlinville School Milk Fund.
