John Paul Tomaska Jr., 78, of Carlinville, IL, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at Carlinville Rehab and Health Care in Carlinville, IL.

John was born September 9, 1945, in Blue Island, IL, the only son of John Paul and Emily Baytus Tomaska. He graduated from Blue Island High School 1963 and Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1967. He married Wanda Kondracki in 1967.

John worked for 40 years as a meat buyer for Rose Packing in Chicago, IL, retiring in 2006. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and Chicago sports fan, and a model railroading enthusiast. In his younger years, John was an outstanding 16-inch softball player who was inducted into the Chicago 16 Inch Softball Hall of Fame. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held in Peru, IL, at a later date.

John is survived by his wife, Wanda Tomaska, of Carlinville, IL, daughter, Melissa (Douglas) Olivero of Peru, IL, daughter, Amy (Larry) Igl of Jamestown, ND, son, John Paul Tomaska, III, of IN, and grandchildren Cameron, Andrew, Alex, and Ethan.

Memorials may be made to Ss Mary & Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville, IL.
