Condolences
Our sincere condolences to all of Dan’s family. Dan and Shirley are greatly missed & it was our pleasure knowing them and remembering them.

To All of Dan's Family,
Dan was one of our most favorite people ever! Crusty on the outside, and a marshmallow on the inside, he was a paragon of a self-made man and the American Dream. We loved sitting in front of his garage with him on Sanibel, where he shared with us his many war stories, book reviews, political opinions and neighborhood gossip. He was always generous and kind, and we came to look upon him as a close friend. It saddened us greatly to see his physical condition deteriorate. We feared that the last time he left Sanibel would be the last time we saw him, and this, in fact, was the case. We kept in touch with him by phone, which became more difficult as time went on due to his hearing loss.
We have missed Dan's presence on Sanibel ever since he left (our neighborhood is truly not the same without him and we miss him every time we pass by his house, which is daily), and we will miss his presence on this earth now that he has passed.
We send our most sincere condolences to his entire family, many of you whom we know or have met. We pray for the repose of Dan's soul and we pray that he is now living happily and pain free in Heaven with his beautiful and most lovely wife Shirley.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Barbara Beran and Rick Shewring

Dan was bigger than life itself. He definitely has a wonderful family. The world was blessed with Dan and Shirley. He will be missed. Hugs to the family.
A great business leader and independent thinker, I enjoyed every beer I had the privilege of sharing with him. He taught me a great deal about business and life, and I am sure many will miss him greatly
Since the day Dan passed I've tried to think of what to say that would appropriately honor him, finally coming to the conclusion that there is no way to describe the 35 years that we spent as friends, both at Findlay Marina and in Florida. Dan was a true Patriot who supported many causes that benefited America and Americans, including his home town Carlinville. He quietly helped many who were in need. We send condolences to all the family, many of whom we had the privilege of knowing. He told many family stories that revealed how proud he was of them. We could never repay Dan and Shirley's kindness to us, and some of our best times ever were spent with them. It's comforting to know he's finally dancing again in heaven with his favorite gal, Shirley Mae.
So sorry to hear of Dan's passing. We used to meet, mingle and visit him and Shirley at the many of annual Holiday Inn conferences. It was always obvious that Dan and Shirley were fantastic folks and a pleasure to have their company. One of the last stories I heard from them was at a hotel conference in California. They explained how they had enjoyed the trip going to California, from the midwest and through the Rockies via Amtrak train. Most delightful folks and we (my family) always looked forward to reuniting at those annual get togethers with Dan and Shirley. Rest in peace and may God bless you both.
Every now and then someone comes along who is so integral in a community that we may not realize their value to us until they are gone. Dan was that guy. His contributions have made Carlinville a better place and we are all better for having known him. I have a few stories of my own that I will cherish. What wonderful examples Dan and Shirley were for us to emulate. We am so sorry for your loss. Scott and Jennifer Gwillim
Anyone that ever met him was his friend. He did SO MUCH for our town. He always had a story for me, and sometimes it was even believable. I miss him already! Dan, rest in peace alongside your Shirley.
Dear Tim, Chris and family, Although it’s been years since I visited with your father at his office in Carlinville I remember him as a great man from greatest generation. Smart, outgoing and friendly. My prayers are for both your father and Shirley who are together now in heaven, Sincerely, Tim Nicoud, Sr.
