Obituary of Carolyn Whitler

Carolyn Jean Whitler, 90, of Girard, passed away Monday morning, January 11, 2021 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Carolyn was born on February 20, 1930 at home in Virden, IL. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Fannie and Stephen Brenneman. On December 29, 1951 she married Hal Whitler in Carlinville. He preceded her on January 21, 2001. Carolyn was a 1948 graduate of Girard High School. She was a homemaker and raised her five children. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Girard, enjoyed bowling and was a PTA member. She loved her time at Deck's Drugstore and later Doc's Fountain with her granddaughter Stephanie and visiting with all her friends. She co-owned the Near New Shop in Girard with her cousin, Gwen Tucker for many years. Carolyn is survived by her three daughters, Becky (Phil) Williams of Carlinville, IL, Gail (Stu) Hunt of Girard, IL, and Cheryl Turley of Girard, IL; two sons, Phil (Mary Jane) Whitler of Litchfield, IL, and Marty Whitler of Girard, IL; grandchildren, Jason, Andrew, Sonya, Stephanie, Kristopher, and Dane; 8 great-grandchildren; cousin, Gwen Tucker of Springfield, IL. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and husband. There will be no services at this time. Memorials are suggested to the Macoupin County Animal Shelter, Girard Library, or the First Christian Church.
