Obituary of Margaret Brooks Burns

Margaret Brooks Burns, 91 of Chesterfield, IL passed away Tuesday morning, September 11, 2018, at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL. Margaret was born February 13, 1927, in Hettick, IL, a daughter of Rolland Dawson and Katie Margaret (Klokkenga) Dawson Converse. Margaret graduated from Chesterfield High School with the class of 1945. She married James R. Brooks in 1946 in Chesterfield, IL and he passed away 1982. Margaret later married Samuel Burns in 1985 and he passed away in 2007. Margaret was a homemaker and enjoyed tending to her flower beds during that time. She was also known for her cooking talents where she was a cook at Chesterfield and Carlinville Schools. After retirement she spent most of her time feeding and watching her birds in the yard and making her flower beds weed free. She was a generous person and known in her community for always lending a helping hand. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, grandchildren; Jeff Brooks and Kari Lynn Brooks, step-grandson, Doug Dugan, and brother, James Dawson. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018, 10:00 to 11:00 am at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL., where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Chesterfield Cemetery, Chesterfield, IL. Margaret is survived by her sons, James B. (Viva) Brooks of Boise, ID, and Jerry R. (Darcie) Brooks of Lynn Haven, FL, step-daughter, Sue (Charlie) Dugan of Dorsey, IL, grandchildren; Shannon Scott Brooks and Amber Brooks, step granddaughter, Tracey McGaughey and several nieces and nephews.
