Obituary of Harold Edward Newby

~Harold Edward "Newb" Newby, 85 of Carlinville, passed away Wednesday morning, July 12, 2017, surrounded by his family at his residence.

 He was born August 3rd, 1931 in Gillespie, IL to George and Mary Rose Newby.   He married Shirley Hearn on June 23rd, 1951 in St. Charles Mo. 

Harold worked at Olin in East Alton and retired after 43 and a half years on January 1st, 1994.  He also worked for Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Carlinville digging graves.  Harold and Shirley are members of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Carlinville, IL.
Harold and Shirley enjoyed traveling together their entire lives.  He enjoyed playing cards with his family and taught all his grandchildren his favorite game of Pitch.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Harold was preceded in death by his parents,  two sisters, three brothers and granddaughter, Angie Bird. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017, from 4:00  to 7:00  at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Carlinville with Rev. Cliff Woodman officiating..
Burial will follow in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville.

Harold is survived by his wife, Shirley, five children; daughters, Linda Carroll of Litchfield, IL, Brenda (Vic) Urbonus of Gillespie, IL, Trenda (Don) Wichman of Carlinville, IL, Drenda Haley of Carlinville, IL, son, Les (Peg) Newby of Carlinville, IL,  grandchildren, Tina (Mike) Pitman, Theresa Carroll, Andy Bird, Becky (Ben) Funk, Dustin, Jackie Thacker, Brad (Heather) Haley, Brittany (Davon Walton) Haley, Mitch Newby, Maggie Newby. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren: Alex Pitman, Sabrina Carroll, Ashley Carroll, Phillip Bird, Olivia Funk, Alaina Funk, Rocco Thacker, Eliott Thacker, Elly Haley, Emmy Haley, Corbin Walton, and Willow Walton, sisters, Velma Kosiba of Florida and Ellen Gardner of Rowlett, TX.

Memorials may be made to Lou Gehrig Disease or Emmanuel Baptist Church.
