Obituary of Verla Wilson

Verla Mae Wilson, 85, of Girard, passed away Saturday evening, April 22, 2017 at her residence in Girard, IL. Verla was born on March 16, 1932 to Ralph and Freda (Defrates) Watkins in Jacksonville, IL. She was a 1950 graduate of Jacksonville High School. On October 14, 1952 she married Derald Wayne Wilson in Jacksonville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2009. Verla was a true "Farm Mom". She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed following their sporting events. She loved to read and play bingo. Verla is survived by three daughters, Cathy (John A.) LeGrand of Girard, IL, Janet (Rodney, Sr.) Frey of Girard, IL, and Eilene (Mike) Mullen of Girard, IL; two sons, Kenny (Lesli) Wilson of Virden, IL and Adam (Duane) Wilson of Springfield, IL; 13 grandchildren, John J. LeGrand (Jill), Jodi Clark (Steve), Sherri (Marty) Gerdanc, Stacy (Scott) Moss, Rodney Jr. (Devon) Frey, Trisha Mullen, Jennifer (Eric) Sullivan, Missy (Luke) Conkling, Stephanie (Matt) Maddox, Tyler (Ashley) Mullen, Caitlyn LeGrand, Joel Wilson, and Benjamin Wilson;18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sister, Shirley Pera of Scottsdale, AZ; several nieces and nephews. Verla was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017, at 10:30 am at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home with Adam Wilson, her youngest child, as Celebrant.
