On behalf of Wendy (Rhoads) Gula's family, deeply heartfelt condolences.
It's hard to know someone that is so beautiful, talented in many ways, and so active is gone. God has his plan but we just don't understand. She was a fighter, a daughter, a wife, a mother, and everyone enjoyed her company. You will have to remember all the great memories of her life for you to go on living. God has a plan. We pray your family finds the strength and courage to go on. Love has surrounded you by her love. We are so sorry for your loss. Prayers and Hugs
God speed beautiful Kelley. Prayers for Mike, your lovely kids, Mom, Dad and sisters. Your light shone brightly all your life, and will continue to glow in the hearts and faces of those you loved and who loved you.

We want to tell you that when my son was in school Kelley went out of her to make sure he was happy. School was never Clay favorite place to be but she always made sure she could get a smile from him everyday when she had him her class. They talked about his future alot and how he too wanted to make a difference in kids lives. Make them want to be in school and to make sure there would be more teachers like her to help kids enjoy school. She will be missed dearly by many. I am so sorry. May peace be with your family and friends at this time.
Mike, Hanna, Luke, and Faith, I'm so very sorry for your loss. Kelly was a beautiful lady inside and out. She put up a long fight, and did it with determination. Kids, I'm so very sorry. I know you will make your mom proud in life. As your past teacher, I'm so very proud of each of you.
Mike, I'm truly sorry for your loss she was a wonderful lady! May God be with you and your children many condolences for you and your family members. Again sorry for your loss!

Many years ago a wonderful family came into my life. My youngest son always came home from school talking about this teacher that he really liked . It was Kelley( Mrs. Liljegren !) He talked about her patience, kindness and all around love for her students at the high school! Gavin was so upset finding out that cancer was after such a wonderful person! We explained to him that nobody is excluded from cancer ..... even good people, kind people and the very patient!
I was lucky enough to get to know this wonderful family because of Collinsville Football. Early on in Kelley's battle a lot of our football families cooked , gave gift cards and tried to help wherever needed. Coach L was at the top of my "Great Guy" list..... you talk about a well oiled machine, watching those two with their own children, and still working their jobs .That didn't even include all the extra jobs they did at school. It was a joy getting to be one on one with Coach L. for football.
Many up and downs.... many prayers and now loosing this battle after 13 years. We are the lucky that got to meet and interact with this terrific family.
RIP Kelley! You will be thought of often and missed daily.
With my deepest sympathy,
Johnna Blaylock
Since #32 had an affinity for sports analogies to relate her wins and losses over the last few years, these are my thoughts upon hearing the clock had run out.
The never ending tournament, the brackets and rules constantly changing, she suited up and laced ‘em tight every time the refs blew the whistle for players to take the court. Every, single time.
Her opponent was famous for unsportsmanlike conduct and flagrant fouls yet #32 played on, spurred by her teammates and coaches encouragement and cheers. They set as many screens as possible to see if she could shake loose and score more points than her opponent. The scorekeepers had their hands full managing the books and tallying shots taken, passes, rebounds fouls and steals.
When the buzzer sounded late in night on March 2nd, 2017, #32 walked off the court for the final time. Every coach worth their salt will tell you when you give it all you got, win or lose, you hold your head high and walk tall. No one walks taller than Kelly Jo Davis Liljegren.
Mike, Hanna, Luke, and Faith along with Kelley’s entire extended family and community of friends will regroup before the next season. The game of life plays on, not despite losing one of its MVPs, but rather in tribute to and inspired by their greatness.
#32 will be felt when the sun warms your back on the bench or in the bleachers on a chilly day, she will be the cool breeze across your sweaty brow when the heat becomes overwhelming. You will notice her in the smell of the worn leather when you pick up the glove or the ball and the grit of the dust kicked up from the fields. She will be sound of the ball bouncing on the hardwood as well as roar of the crowd in the stands.
The jersey retired and hung in the rafters, no question a hall of famer.
We are so sorry for your loss and we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
To Coach & Family, we send our prayers. Praying for peace and smiles as you reflect on pleasant memories. God bless.
We extend our sincere sympathies and prayers to Kelley's entire family as you lay her to rest, knowing she is now in her eternal home. The life she lived will continue to have a beautiful effect on all those she touched.
So very sorry for the loss of Kelley. She was such a sweet person. God bless.
Kelley was a special part of our sons Chris and Scott Wherley IC family! She was also special to Larry and I ! We had a picture on our fridge of her with a nose guard on playing Basketball! My Thoughts and sympathies to you all! She will be missed by many! Hugs and prayers
Mike, Hanna, Luke, Faith and family:
I am heartbroken to learn about Kelley's passing. I had the honor of knowing Kelley at IC. For someone with so much beauty and talent-both in sports and academics-I was always in awe of how she remained so grounded, humble and kind. I have followed her battle against her opponent for many years and I believe she is the victor because she never seemed to let the disease beat her spirit. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in the difficult days ahead. Please know so many think of you all.
