Obituary of James L. Konneker

James L. Konneker, 77, of Carlinville passed away Wednesday morning, February 1, 2017 at home. Jim was born in Carlinville on June 30, 1939 to Charley and Luella (Leefers) Konneker. Carlinville has always been Jim's home. He graduated from Carlinville High School in 1957, where he ran track. After high school he began farming with his Dad before taking over ownership of all operations. In addition to farming, Jim enlisted in the Air Force National Guard serving until 1966 when he was Honorably discharged. He continued to farm through 1991 before beginning work at the US Post Office, retiring in 2006. Jim married Wanda Mansfield on January 23, 1965, recently celebrating 52 years of marriage. She survives. Also surviving are his two children: Rachelle (David) Keck; and Eric (Mandy) Konneker, both of Carlinville; and 3 grandchildren: Spencer James Keck of Peoria, IL, Quincy Reed Keck, and Andrew James Konneker; and a sister, Charlotte Wilson of Webster, NY, 2 nieces and a nephew . Jim enjoyed all aspects of nature- from watching wildlife out his patio door to his vacations in Alaska and Colorado. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting deer and mushrooms. He was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge #1412 where he once served as the Exalted Ruler; he also served on the Rural Cemetery Board. Jim had a strong presence and a very gentle demeanor. He shared his morning coffee at the Plaza Cafe with the local "World Problem Solvers". Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family- with the sun rising and setting on his 3 grandchildren; Drew reports that he especially enjoyed playing with him! Family will be hosting a visitation on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00pm with funeral services on Sunday, February 5 at 1:00pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL. Burial will follow immediately at the Rural Cemetery. Memorials can be made in Jim's name to the Rural Cemetery Board or the Elks Christmas Fund.
