Obituary of Gladys V. Rosentreter-Burleson

Gladys V. Rosentreter-Burleson, 96, of Carlinville, passed away Tuesday morning, October 18, 2016 at Heritage Health Care in Carlinville, IL. Gladys was born on March 25, 1920 to John and Leta (Fenton) Meyers in Chesterfield, IL. She married J.A. "Bus" Rosentreter on September 14, 1938 in Plainview, IL and he preceded her in death in February 1981. Gladys later married Howard A. Burleson on March 14, 1987 in Carlinville and he passed away in May 2016. Gladys worked for Carl's Grocery Store in Carlinville for 3 different owners. She also worked for the Macoupin Service Company for 15 years and MJM Electric in Carlinville for 30 years. Gladys enjoyed yard sales, auctions, bingo, dancing and playing cards. She was a member of the Plainview Baptist Church and the Plainview Eastern Star #665. Gladys was a charter member of the Polk Township Home Bureau, as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Gladys is survived by her son, John W. (Audrey) Rosentreter of Plainview, IL; son-in-law, Robert Duncan of Carlinville, Il 4 step children, Larry (Marge) Burleson of Carlinville, IL, Dale (Rose) Burleson of Midland, MI, Dean (Venita) Burleson of Louisiana, MO and Diana (James) Fuld of St. Louis, MO; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; sister, Helen Keele of Carlinville, IL; brother, Frank (Judy) Meyers of Sherman, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; daughter, Patricia Duncan, 3 sisters; 2 brothers and a great grandson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Eastern Star Rites will be conducted at 7:00 pm, following visitation. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:00 am at the funeral home in Carlinville with Rev. Bill Baughman officiating. Gladys will be buried in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Plainview Baptist Church, Plainview Eastern Star #665 or Carlinville Heritage Health Care Activity Fund.
