Obituary of Lyndal L. Herschelman

Lyndal L. Herschelman , age 73 of Carlinville, IL, passed away Tuesday morning, January 19, 2016, at his residence. Lyndal was born July 2, 1942, in Litchfield, IL, one of three sons born to Harold and Lora Lee (Corlew) Herschelman. Lyndal graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1960. He soon married Mary Rosentreter July 29, 1961, in Carlinville, IL at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was married for over 54 years.. Lyndal worked for ATandT for 13 years before returning to Carlinville to help run the family farm. Lyndal retired in 2012 from Drew Ford in Gillespie after working for several area car dealerships. He was a member of Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville and Carlinville Elk's Lodge #1412 where he served as the Exalted Ruler in 1984 and District Governor in 1992. Lyndal served as the chairman of the Elk's National Foundation and bowled on the Elk's Bowling league, participating in several state and national bowling tournaments. He enjoyed relaxing and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with his family. Lyndal was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Amy Herschelman, grandson, Nicholas Groves, and brother Harry Herschelman. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church with prayer service being offered at 3:45pm. Elk's Ritual will be offered at 7:00 pm with the Past Exalted Rulers leading the service. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:00 am, Friday, January 22, 2016 at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church 2010 E. 1st South Carlinville, IL, with Rev. Michael Haag as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Bethel Ridge Cemetery, Carlinville. Lyndal is survived by his wife, Mary Herschelman; son, Steve Herschelman of Carlinville, IL; daughter, Kathy (Bill) Groves of Peoria, IL; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Don) Allison of Peoria, IL, Cody Kay of Springfield, IL, Marcus Herschelman of Carlinville, IL and Austin Groves of Peoria; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Fred (Phyllis) Herschelman of Springfield, IL and several nieces and nephews.
