Louis H. “Louie” Hacke, 74, of Carlinville, passed away Monday evening, January 11, 2016 at Carlinville Area Hospital.
Louie was born on January 25, 1941 to Howard and Alberta (Lott) Hacke in Carlinville. He graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1959 and attended the University of Illinois. On March 10, 1962 he married Nancy Johnson at the United Methodist Church in Carlinville.
Louie was the sixth generation to farm the Hacke family property east of Carlinville and retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. His love of the outdoors and adventurous spirit were evident, as he enjoyed hunting, riding ATVs and motorcycles, and piloting private planes during his life. He was a member of the Macoupin County Fair Board for 40 years and participated in Toastmasters and other civic groups. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and neighbor, his jovial spirit and love of life brought smiles and inspiration to many.
Louie is survived by his wife, Nancy; three daughters, Debra (Alan) Hacke Cotten of Kirkwood, MO, Angela (Henry) Jackson of Plainfield, IN, and Susan (Tim) Lawrence of Nokomis, IL; 5 grandchildren, Mallory Nelson, Ian Cotten, Caitlin Lawrence, Courtney (Kevin) O'Malley, and Louis Jackson; sister, Arlene (Lyndall) Heyen of Carlinville; niece and nephew, Melissa and Bradley Heyen; great niece, Annabella Heyen. Louie’s faithful companion, Sammi, his black lab, will miss their daily adventures. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 17, 2016, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Carlinville United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016, 10:30 am at the Carlinville United Methodist Church, with Revs. Robert Sabo and Rex Hendrix officiating. Burial will take place in the Moore Cemetery in Carlinville at a later date.
