Obituary of Barbara J. Pierson-Compton

Barbara J. Pierson-Compton 63, of Carlinville, formerly of Girard, passed away Sunday evening, September 6, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL surround by her family, after a long fight with breast cancer. Barb was born at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL on October 23, 1951, to A.E. (Pete) and Mary Langheim. Barb was a 1969 Girard High School graduate. She earned her nursing degree from LLCC. Barb had a wonderful career as a nurse. She worked for many years at the Girard Rural Health Clinic, which she loved. Barb was a very compassionate nurse and loved all her patients. The last 10 years of her career she worked as a research nurse for Dr. Norman Soler, Diabetes and Endocrine Center. Barb enjoyed shopping, playing bunco with her bunco buddies, reading, boating, camping, playing cards, working outside in her flowers and traveling. She also was a volunteer at the Carlinville Hospital gift shop. Barb was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church in Girard where she was a member and President of the Alter & Rosary Society for many years. Barb loved her family and spending time with them, especially her 8 grand- children. Barb is preceded in death by her husband Marvin Pierson, who she was married to for 32 years, her mother, Mary Catherine Langheim, brother, David Langheim, and step-grand-daughter, Sheridan Compton. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Girard at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Chris House and Deacon Denny Baker officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 3:00 til 7:00 p.m. at the church. The rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. Barb remarried Rick Compton of Carlinville, June 2012, and he survives. She is also survived by her children, Vanessa (Tom) Reinhart, Kris (Kimmy) Eldridge of Girard, Cody (Katricia) Pierson, Florida, step-daughter Kristy Compton of Litchfield, 8 grandchildren, Claire, Jacob, Mary Kate, Joe, Rawley, Ella, Briggs & Brylee, 3 step-grandchildren, Tristen, Lauren and Maxwell. Her father A. E. (Pete) (Deanna) Langheim of Chatham, sisters, Mary (Rich) Cadigan of Chatham, and Rose (Rolin) Carr of Springfield, her brother Jim Langheim of Monticello, step-sisters Beth (Greg) Defevers, Palmyra, Connie (Paul) Allavone, Oregon, her special uncle Robert Norris of Greenfield, and several nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made to the Girard Fire & Rescue Squad or St. Patrick’s Church Altar & Rosary Society or Girard Park Committee. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard is in charge of arrangements.
