Obituary of W. Meade Woods

W. Meade Woods 88, of Carlinville, passed away on Thursday evening, January 19, 2012 at Carlinville Area Hospital. Meade was born on November 20, 1923 to William and Susie (Dams) Woods in Bird Township, rural Carlinville. He graduated from Chesterfield High School, class of 1942 and later attended Blackburn College in Carlinville. Meade married Evelyn E. Anderson on September 23, 1945 at the Carlinville United Methodist Church. Meade farmed in Bird Township until 2009, but retired in 1993, moving to town the following year. He was a former member of the Federal Land Bank Board, Macoupin County Farm Bureau, Town and Country, Married Rural Youth, and was on the Macoupin County Fair Board for over 50 years. Meade was also a former 4-H leader and was active with the pork and beef producers, as well as the FFA. For 32 years he was the supervisor for Bird Township. Meade loved hunting and playing cards, belonging to several pinochle clubs over the years. Most of all he loved his family. Meade is survived by his wife, Evelyn; 2 sons, David Woods (Suzy) of Springfield, IL and Keith Woods (Ann) of Carlinville; daughter, Peggy LeVora (Tom) of Bloomington, IN; 4 grandsons, Ben (Kristin) Woods, Mark Woods, Matt LeVora (Jenny) and Adam Woods; 2 granddaughters, Sara Kreigh (Josh) and Rachael Harrison (Rob Macropoulos); 3 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy McKee of Monmouth, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Susie Woods; son, Dennis M. Woods in 2007; daughter-in-law, Toni Woods and a brother, Kenneth Woods. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carlinville United Methodist Church in Carlinville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Carlinville United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Taylor officiating. Burial will take place in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville.
