Earl J. Wiles
94, of Carlinville, passed away Monday morning, December 22, 2014 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
He was born on September 21, 1920, the only child to Reuben and Olive (Farrant) Wiles in Carlinville, IL. He graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1941. On April 24, 1949, he married Frances "Tim" Hewitt at the Chesterfield United Church.
Earl owned and operated R.E. Wiles Trucking in Carlinville for over 50 years. He was a member of the Carlinville Fire Department for 52 years and a member of the American Legion Guy Baird Post #554 for over 50 years. He was a member of the Carlinville United Methodist Church. Earl also was a member of the Macoupin Club, serving as a past president. He was a 50 year member of Plainview Eastern Star and Mt. Nebo Lodge #76 Masonic Lodge in Carlinville. Earl was a past member of the Lions Club and Elks Club. He enjoyed going to the Indy 500, and made 21 straight races. Earl enjoyed walking every morning and fishing in his free time out at Lake Rinaker. He most enjoyed watching his two grandsons playing sports. Earl served his country during WWll in the US Navy as a Gunner Mate 1st Class. He served in both Pacific and European theaters.
Earl is survived by his wife Frances "Tim"; son, Greg E. Wiles (wife Debra) of Carlinville; two grandsons, Brett Wiles of Taylorville, IL and Nathan Wiles of Myrtle Beach, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Information
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, with Rev. Robert Sabo, officiating.
Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
Burial will take place in the Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Carlinville at a later date. Donations Information
