Dorothy H. Whitworth
Dorothy H. Whitworth, age 85 of Girard passed away Friday morning at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born April 8, 1923 in Girard the only daughter to the late Charles E. and Ruth L (Thompson) Berry. She married Robert Arnold in 1942 and he passed away in 1946. Dorothy later married Maurice Whitworth. He passed away in 1990. Dorothy was a bookkeeper for the family Texaco Gas Station in Girard. She later kept books for Hendricks Home Furnishings in Virden for 20 years. She was also part owner in Camp Jomoco for 7 years. Dorothy served as an Elder and on many church committees at the First Christian Church in Girard, IL. She was an avid golfer at Oak Leaf Country Club in Girard, and never missed her children's sporting events. Dorothy loved Girard and was always willing to help others in need. She graduated from Girard High School in 1940 and one year of business school.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Whitworth, wife Judy of Eustis, FL; Thomas Whitworth, wife Gale of Lancaster, PA and Richard Whitworth, wife Jayne of Ankeny, IA. There are seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. Dorothy was preceded in death by bothers Lynn E. Berry and Dr. Sterling Berry. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the First Christian Church in Girard. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 pm on Sunday at the church. Officiating will be her three sons, Robert, Thomas and Richard Whitworth.
Graveside services will be held, Monday, June 22, 2008 at 11:30 A.M. at the Girard Cemetery. Donations Information
