Victor Dale "Vic" Whitler
89, of Girard, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Heritage Manor in Carlinville.
He was born Tuesday, November 1, 1921 in Girard, IL, the son of Clarence D. and Nell I. (Shroyer) Whitler.
Vic graduated from Girard High School in 1939.
He married Elizabeth J. Burns in St. Charles, MO on December 13, 1942.
Vic was a lifelong farmer in the Girard area. He was employed at Sangamo Electric Company in Springfield for 18 years, retiring in 1978. There after, Vic also was employed at Country Companies as a claims adjuster for 25 years.
He was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in Girard where he served as an Elder and Deacon. Vic was a member of the National Horseshoe Club and St. Cloud Florida Horseshoe Club and held the honor of being the Illinois State Champion Horseshoe Pitcher in 1939 and a state doubles champion with his uncle, Otto Whitler, in 1950. He was an avid bowler.
Survivors: wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Vicky Jo (Robert) Godfrey of Boise, ID, daughter, Connie (Jerry) Lambert of Flossmoor, IL, chosen daughter, Karen (Jim) Snell of Modesto, IL, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and brother, Richard (Shirley) Whitler of Girard, IL.
He was preceded in death by parents, son, James Mark Whitler, brothers, Robert Whitler and Hal Whitler and sister Evelyn Wicks. Funeral Information
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, December 6 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL and one hour before funeral service at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral service, 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at First Christian Church in Girard.
Burial will be in Girard Cemetery in Girard. Donations Information
