Grace Marie Werner
88, of Carlinville, passed away Friday afternoon, December 7, 2012 at Friendship Home in Carlinville.
She was born on August 23, 1924 to H. Paul and Ruth (Cattermole) Gray in Woodstock, Illinois. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in New York, and then from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York with a BA in home economics. On September 6, 1947 she married Dr. William E. Werner, Jr. in Poughkeepsie.
After graduating from Cornell University, she taught nursery school and was a librarian in Troy, New York. After moving to Carlinville, Grace was the hostess for the Welcome Wagon for over 20 years. Grace was a homemaker, great cook, and loved gardening in her yard and at her church. She was a member of the Federated Church and was active in P.E.O. Grace initiated the "Meals-on Wheels" program in Carlinville. She loved to travel, ride her bike, and walk with her husband. She loved helping others and was known for her letter writing.
Grace is survived by her loving spouse of 65 years, Dr. William E. Werner, Jr., son - James N. Werner of Taylorville; daughter - Mary L. Loveless (husband, Lynn) of Carlinville; 2 grandsons - Kenneth Loveless (wife Laurie) of San Francisco, CA and Barrett Loveless (fiancee Ely Rosario) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL ; 2 granddaughters - Dr. Genevieve Werner-Hann (husband Joe) of Seattle, WA and Alison Loveless of Carlinville; 2 great-grandsons - Cooper and Chase Loveless; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H. Paul and Ruth Marie Gray, and her brother, Dr. Gordon W. Gray. Funeral Information
Visitation will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 10:00 am at the Federated Church, Carlinville, with Pastor Charlotte Poetschner, officiating, and Mim Pride and Barrett Loveless speaking the eulogy.
Burial will take place in the Moore Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be James Werner, Lynn, Kenneth, Barrett, and Alison Loveless, and Mark Armstrong. Dr. Genevieve Werner-Hann will serve as honorary pallbearer. Donations Information
