Obituary of Sterling H. Walden

Sterling H. Walden 88, of Girard, passed away on March 25, 2013 at Sunrise Manor in Virden, IL He was born on March 8, 1925 to Carl and Alma (Hamilton) Walden in Nilwood, IL. He attended Girard High School and graduated with the class of 1943. Sterling served as a Corporal in the U.S.Air Force in the Pacific during WWll. On September 3, 1946 he married Doris Slightom at the Girard United Methodist Church. Sterling farmed in the Nilwood Township area until retiring in 2006. Sterling was a member of Virden American Legion, Macoupin County Farm Bureau, and loved being outside working around the farm. Sterling is survived by his loving spouse of 67 years, Doris; 2 sons- Sterling Gary (wife Rhonda) Walden of Effingham, Illinois; Randy K. (wife Kathy) Walden of Girard, Illinois; daughter - Debra (husband Bill) Meyers of Chatham, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers - Donald and Eldon Walden, both of Girard, Illinois; sister - Ina Traylor of Virden, Illinois; as well as several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Alma Walden and his brother Stanley Walden. Funeral Information Visitation will be held at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard on Friday, March 29, from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 30 at 10:00 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham officiating. Burial will take place in Girard Cemetery where Military rights will be given. Donations Information Memorials are suggested to the Donor's Choice.
