Darlene C. Stead
69, of Girard, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 29, 2014 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Darlene was born on December 23, 1944 to Jack and Esther (Johnson) Crain in Chicago, IL and was a graduate of Virden High School with the class of 1962. On February 17, 1968 she married Jim Stead at the Girard Baptist Church and he survives.
Darlene supported her family as a homemaker while her children were growing up. She also worked for Franklin Life Insurance and Arc Venture for several years, as well as being a hostess for Showtime Lanes in Virden. Darlene was an avid NASCAR fan and bowler. She also enjoyed crocheting, BINGO and watching tennis. For many years, Darlene was a certified volleyball referee and helped coach the junior bowling teams at Country Lanes bowling alley in Girard.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Jim Stead of Girard; son, Steve (Patty) Stead of Virden; daughter, Shelly (companion, Roger Flowers Sr.) Katcher of Virden; two granddaughters, Sarah (Josh) Colvin and Samantha (companion, Chase Flentje) Boehler; three grandsons, Kyle (fiancée, Kelsi Middleton) Katcher, Quentin Stead and Maddix Stead; great grandson, Owen Colvin and great granddaughter, Olivia Colvin, as well as several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jacqueline Marie Padgett. Funeral Information
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 10:00 am at the funeral home in Girard with Rev. Marty Nagel officiating.
Burial will follow in Girard Cemetery. Donations Information
