Betty Lou Starkweather 89, of Herndon, Virginia, formerly of Hettick, passed away on Saturday evening, August 18, 2012 in Fairfax, Virginia. She was born on April 9, 1923 to Vonley A. and Ella (Clardy) Hewitt in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Chesterfield High School with the class of 1941and then attended from Shurtleff College. On April 11, 1941 she married Clarence Jason Starkweather, Sr. in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1991. They had two sons, Clarence Jason, Jr. and Kendall N. Starkweather. She had lived with her son in Virginia since 2003. Prior to that time, she lived the majority of her life in Macoupin County beginning in Chesterfield where she grew up, in Hettick where she and Jason lived their married lives, and in Carlinville after his death. Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who encouraged her family to get as much formal education as possible. Her professional life included over 20 years as a secretary and clinical assistant with Dr. Robert Kinser's Veterinary practice and as a Medicare insurance secretary. Betty is survived by her loving son - Kendall Starkweather (Carolyn) of Herndon, VA; daughter-in-law - Cheryl of Atlantic, IA; grandson - Scott Starkweather (Tina) of Sycamore, IL; 3 granddaughters - Andrea Starkweather Matheson (Dale) of Johnston, IA, Claire Starkweather Forrest (Scott) of LaJolla, CA, Carissa Hottinger Williams (Daniel) of Jacksonville, FL; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters - Francis "Tim" Wiles of Carlinville, Grace Huyear of Carlinville, Ione Lynn of Springfield, IL; brother - Edwin Hewitt of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Clarence Jason, Jr., daughter-in-law, Lynne, granddaughter, Lynnae Hottinger, and sister, Marie Snidle. Funeral Information A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012, 11:00 am at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, with Rev. Kevin Strope, officiating.
