Clarence R. "Smitty" Smith 90, of Carlinville, passed away Wednesday morning, November 7, 2012 at Heritage Manor in Carlinville. Clarence was born on November 22, 1921 to Otis and Elsie (Holloway) Smith in Barrow Station, IL. He served in the South Pacific for 3 years during WWII as a Sergeant in the United States Army. On February 17, 1946 he married Pauline Anderson in Alton, IL. She preceded him in death in May 2004. Clarence worked for REA in Carrollton before moving to Carlinville to work for MJM Electric as an electrical lineman. He loved people and puttering around helping people. Clarence was a member of the Federated Church in Carlinville, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Carrollton, as well as the Guy Baird American Legion Post #554 and the Carlinville Elk's Lodge #1412. Clarence is survived by 2 daughters, Donna Smith of Flossmoor, IL and Becky Woodard (Terry) of Fenton, MO; granddaughter, Michelle Hankinson (James); 2 great-grandsons, Jared Hankinson and Cameron Hankinson; sister, Dorothy Jean Robertson of Jacksonville, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline and his parents, Otis and Elsie Smith. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert Sabo officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Carlinville. Donations Information Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
