Lester "Pete" Scharfenberg 91, of Carlinville, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 at his residence. He was born Friday, August 1, 1919 in Greenfield, IL, the son of Christ and Minnie (Erps) Scharfenberg. He married Virginia (Jenkins) in St. Charles, MO on April 20, 1941. The Scharfenbergs moved to Carlinville in 1948 and opened Sure Way Sanitation. After leaving the sanitation business, Lester worked as a cement finisher for Monterey Coal Company in Carlinville and Sessor. When the construction of the coal mines was finished, Lester reentered the sanitation business until retiring in 1987. Lester was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving family members, wife, Virginia Scharfenberg of Carlinville, daughter, Janet Scharfenberg of Roodhouse, daughter, Judi Fullington (Bill) of Carlinville, son, Terry Scharfenberg (Joan) of Galveston, TX, daughter, Jerilyn Roscetti (John) of Springfield, son, Ted Scharfenberg, Georgia, daughter, Joyce Emmons (Roy) of Carlinville, daughter, Jo Ann Burke (Gene) of Pawnee, several grand, great and great great grandchildren, brother, Charles Scharfenberg (Verna) of Virden. He is preceded in death by his parents and twin infant daughters, Jenifer Raye & Janice Gaye. Funeral Information Visitation will be held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M.on Sunday November 14, 2010. Funeral service will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 15, 2010 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Victor Peetoom officiating. Burial will be in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Carlinville. Pallbearers assisting will be Terry Borkgren II, John Fullington, Christian Scharfenberg, Michael Emmons, Scott Scharfenberg and Bill Fullington. Donations Information Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Scharfenberg family. Directions Visitation: Emmanuel Baptist Church S.B.C.
