Obituary of Virginia Fay Rice

Virginia Fay Rice age 97, of Carlinville passed away Tuesday evening, September 25, 2012, at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL. Virginia was born August 2, 1915, in Carlinville, IL, a daughter of William C. Slagel and Emma (Gothardt) Slagel. Virginia married Harry E. Rice on May 15, 1935 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Carlinville and he passed away January 1, 1987. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Wilberta Reiher. Virginia graduated from Carlinville High School, class of 1933. Virginia had been a clerk at Rudolph's Department Store in Carlinville and later worked as a Teller for the Carlinville National Bank for several years. Virginia was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Carlinville where she was a member of the Missionary Society and the church Guild. She was also a past member of the Five Star Club. Virginia loved being around her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her daughters, Sheila F. (Richard) Schrumpf of Highland and Sharon L. (Jeron) Michel of Springfield, granddaughters, Penny Korte (Darrin) of Highland, Candy (Darwin) Kirsch of Highland and Deborah Kenny of Carmel, IN and grandson, Jeffrey (Carrie) Michel of Hampton Bay, NY, brother-in-law Roy Rice of Columbia, MO and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Visitation will be form 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 1, 2012 at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ Church in Carlinville where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Kevin Strope officiating. Burial will be in Carlinville City Cemetery. Donations Information Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ or Carlinville Area Hospital.
