Robert J. "Bob" Rhoads
85, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Carlinville Area Hospital.
He was born Wednesday, July 30, 1924 in Plainview, IL, the Son of Robert T. and Lucille (Little) Rhoads.
Bob served in the United States Army during World War II and served some of his time in Africa. He attended Shertleff College in Alton, Il and George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
He married Mary Lou Pressler in Shipman Methodist Church on July 9, 1947 and they were blessed with a son and a daughter.
Bob worked for Western Auto Stores as a Regional Manager in the Southern part of the United States until 1966. Upon returning home to Carlinville, Bob and Mary Lou became the owners and operators of the Sears Catalog and Merchant Store in Carlinville and Staunton. They sold the business in 1998.
Bob loved to travel, he flew on the Concord and sailed on the Queen Elizabeth II, visited all 50 states and traveled all thoughout Mexico.
Bob was a member of the Federated Church in Carlinville and the Commodore of the Macoupin Station Yacht Club. He enjoyed people, visiting and singing and was an avid story teller.
He is survived by his Son, Kurt Rhoads and wife Nance, of Garrison, NY, Daughter, Robyn Stone of Highlands Ranch, CO, Granddaughter, Sydni Stone of Highlands Ranch, CO, Niece, Becky Haley & Nephew, Robert Rhoads, Sister-In-Law, Joanne Rhoads of Plainview, IL.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Rhoads and wife Mary Lou in 2007. Funeral Information
A memorial service will be held Wednesday March 24, 2010 at 3:00pm at the Federated Church in Carlinville, IL. Friends may call two hours prior to services, from 1:00-3:00pm.
Burial will be in the Shipman Cemetery. Donations Information
