Ron Qualls 88 of Virden passed away Thursday afternoon, April 16, 2015 at Sunrise Manor in Virden, IL. Ronald was born March 13, 1927 in Girard, IL, a son of John Harold and Mary Eliza (Eater) Qualls. Ronald attended Virden High School and on February 6, 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in W.W. #2 on the USS Bairoko as a Fireman First Class. He later served in the Korean Conflict on the USS Antietam as a Loader First Class and was honorable discharged on January 20, 1951. He married Doris L. Anderson on March 5, 1949. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2007 along with brothers; Homer, Howard, Wayne, Larry and sisters; Ethel, Henrietta, Maxine, Nettie and Ruth. After the military Ron started his career with Macoupin County FS in Virden as a salesman and later Elevator manager. In 1960 he worked in Carlinville as the Assistant Sales Manager and the Assistant General Manager. Ron retired in 1990 with 41 years of service. He was a member of the Blooming Grove Baptist Church in Palmyra and the Virden American Legion Post #386. Ronald is survived by his brother, Loren (Geraldine) Qualls of Girard; sister, Betty Ann Maguire of Virden; special friend, Wanda Gass of Virden, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral Information Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 am, Monday, April 20, 2015 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Ronny Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in Virden Cemetery, Virden.
