Obituary of Charles Joseph Pocklington

Charles J. Pocklington Sr. 77, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 11, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. Charles was born on October 3, 1934 to Edward and Allie Marie (Nance) Pocklington in Carlinville. On March 26, 1952 he married Anna "Lucy" Pennel in Carlinville. Charles worked for Valley Steel in Carlinville for over 30 years, Carlinville Area Hospital for 10 years and then owned Pocklington Sanitation Company for 20 years when they sold to Flowers Sanitation in 2006. Charles played guitar for several bands and enjoyed teaching others to play. He also enjoyed fishing, yard work and taking drives in the country to watch animals. Charles is survived by his wife Lucy; 5 sons, Charles J. Pocklington (Cheryl S.) of Pekin, IL, Edward F. Pocklington of White City, IL, Sim H. Pocklington of Girard, Joseph T. Pocklington (Sharon) of Standard City, IL, Jimmie D. Pocklington (Vickie) of Carlinville; 2 daughters - Mary Heinrich of Gillespie, IL, Anna L. Wheaton (Jerry Sr.) of Virden; brother, John Pocklington (Merle); 22 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward T. and Allie Marie Pocklington; brother, Jim Pocklington; sister, Geraldine Allie Dyer and a grandchild. Funeral Information Graveside services will be held on Monday March 19, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
