Gilbert Pitchford 91, of Palmyra, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at his residence. He was born Saturday, February 8, 1919 in Atwater, IL the son of Gilbert and Leila (Perrine) Pitchford. He married Hilda (King), March 9, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. Gilbert graduated from Girard High School and enlisted in the Navy several years after graduation. After being discharged, Gilbert returned to the Palmyra area to begin farming. After retirement, Gilbert and Hilda started "Antique Curio" in Palmyra and operated until Gilbert started buying Ford Mustangs and offering parts for sale. He enjoyed collection postcards. Survivors: wife, Hilda Pitchford of Palmyra, IL, grandsons, Mike, Wil and Pat Pitchford, 3 great grandsons, 3 step-great grandchildren, brother, Wilbur "Web" Pitchford (Phyllis) of Thayer, IL, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, son, Gilbert James Pitchford, brother, Everett Pitchford and sister Ethel Hall. Funeral Information Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. in Girard Cemetery. Donations Information Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.
