Ronald L. Pierson
75, of Girard passed away, Tuesday evening, December 31, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Ronald was born March 6, 1938, in Springfield, IL, a son of Hiram Paul and Elva Ruth (Glenn) Pierson.
Ronald married Virginia "Joann" (Glur) May 31, 1957, in Girard, IL at the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Ray Pierson in 1975, daughter, Deborah Diane Pierson in 1964, brother, Paul Junior Pierson, brother, Carl Edward Pierson.
Ronald attended Virden High School and worked for the Virden Recorder as a print press operator. He later was employed at Allis Chalmers in Springfield and Mack Aircraft in St. Louis, MO. After leaving St. Louis Ronald operated the family DX-Sunoco Gas Station from 1971-1978. In the fall of 1978 Ronald started with the City if Girard. He was employed for 30 years and various jobs including the Water-Sewer Supervisor. Ronald retired from the city on December 31, 2007. Ron then went to work for the Virden Recorder again putting the newspapers together.
Ronald attended the Church of the Brethern in Girard. He enjoyed camping, woodcarving, woodworking, hunting, fishing, and motorcycling.
He was a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association and lifetime member of the Antioch Mountain Boys. Ronald was still active on the Girard Fire Department, serving the community for over 56 years, holding every office including Chief from 1980 until 1988. He inspired many young men to serve the department.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Joann Pierson of Girard, 2 sons, Danny (Becky) Pierson and Timothy (Melissa) Pierson, both of Girard, grandsons; Keith Michael & James Michael Pierson, 4 step grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, three nieces, a great nephew and three great nieces. Visitation will be Friday, January 03, 2014 form 4:00- 8:00 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard.
Funeral Services will take place 11:00 am, Saturday,January 4, 2014, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. Donations Information
