Obituary of William J. Olson

Bill Olson William J. "Bill" Olson, 78 of Carlinville formerly of Mt. Carmel, IL, passed away Tuesday evening, May 5, 2015, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Bill was born April 2, 1937, in Waynesville, IL, a son of William L. "Jake" and Lois (Teal) Olson. Bill graduated from Pawnee High School with the class of 1955. He married Marilyn Jeanne (Ebe) Davis, December 6, 1961, at the Methodist Church in Bloomington, IL. Bill was a member of the Carlinville United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the Carlinville Lions Club where he served as President in 1976 and was honored with a Melvin Jones award. He loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals on TV, enjoyed collecting coins and working on the Lion's projects. Bill thrived on a good game of trivia and was a great jokester. Bill started his career with GTE Telephone Company in Crystal Lake, IL as a Lineman and later worked in the Pawnee area for several years. He was transferred to Carlinville, IL where he joined management in 1970. In 1978 Bill took a transfer to Mt. Carmel, IL and retired from there in 1991 after 37 years with GTE-Verizon Phone Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters; Florence Klemme, Jeanie Nedland and Dorothy "Lee Lee" Adams. Bill is survived by his wife, Jeanne Olson of Carlinville, IL, sons, Dirk (Shari) Olson of Allen, TX, Brent M. (Jean) Davis and Shawn L. (Cheryl) Davis of Carlinville, IL, grandchildren, Marcus M. (Jackie) Davis, Emily M. (fiancé Adam Burney) Davis, Michael R. (Alicia) Davis, Dr. Gregory R. Davis, Jonathan Olson, 2 great granddaughters; Avery Renee & Callie Jean Davis and several nieces and nephews Funeral Information Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2015, 1:00 to 3:30 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL. Private family funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Burial will be in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Carlinville, IL.
