Obituary of John L. Neilsen

John L. Neilsen 88, of Girard, formerly of Carlinville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 2, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. John was born on June 9, 1924 to Theodore and Mary (Altenbern) Neilsen in Savanna, IL. John served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946. He then married Dolores Tranter On May 8, 1948 in Chicago, IL. John retired in 1987 after 21 years with Lockheed Air Terminal at O'Hare Airport in Chicago. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Carlinville and was past Chief of the Roselle Fire Department. John also enjoyed model railroading in his spare time. John is survived by his wife, Dolores; 2 daughters, Carol Fish (David) of Lagrange, KY and Diane Seilkopf (Ronald) of Itasca, IL; son, James Neilsen (Christine) of Wheaton, IL; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother - Theodore Neilsen (Betty) of Mt. Olive; sister, Sarah Spychala of Prospect Heights, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Tauber. Funeral Information Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Funeral services will follow visitation on Thursday, October 4, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Terry Link officiating. Burial will take place in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Carlinville.
