Obituary of Max M. Lowrance

Max M. Lowrance 87, of Carlinville passed away Monday morning, January 6, 2014 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Max was born December 15, 1926, in Flat Rock, IL, a son of Herbert and Letha Belle (Darnold) Lowrance. Max graduated from Robinson High School in 1944 and later enlisted in the Navy as a radio man aboard the mine sweeper, USS Quest. He was extremely proud of their motto " Where the fleet goes, we have been". He later graduated from Indiana University in 1950 with a BS in marketing. Max retired in 1971 from Marathon Oil Company. He then was employed at the Illinois Dept. of Corrections as a marketing manager and retired from there in 1988. Max was a member of the Carlinville United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree and a Shriner. In Salem he was a member of the American Legion and Elk's Lodge. Max married Mary Ann Whitten September 3, 1950, in Robinson, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Ann on August 4, 2013 and a brother, Rex Eugene Lowrance. Max is survived by his son, Steve Lowrance of Springfield, IL; granddaughters, Milena (Lucas) Crum and Meghan (Adam Hubrich) Lowrance both of Springfield, IL; great grandchildren, Garrison Crum & Olivia Hubrich both at home and special daughter-in-law Becky Lowrance of Carlinville. Funeral Information Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the Carlinville United Methodist Church with funeral services following at 10:30 at the church with Rev. Robert Taylor officiating. Entombment will follow at Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in the Mausoleum of Valor with military rites conducted by the Guy Baird American Legion Post #554.
