Obituary of Howard Karrick

Howard "Cy" Karrick 83, of Carlinville, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 25, 2013 at his residence. He was born on March 19, 1930 to Walter S. and Hazel (Gray) Karrick in Carlinville. He graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1948. Cy joined the U.S. Army after high school and was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of sargent. On September 4, 1953 he married Betty Freytag in Carlinville. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2011. Cy was a member of American Legion Guy Baird Post #554 in Carlinville, as well as the Carlinville Moose Lodge and the Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412. In his younger years he loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed watching high school sporting events, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Cy most enjoyed being with his family, watching his girls grow into ladies, his grandchildren into young adults, and his great-grandchildren following that same road. Cy is survived by 2 daughters - Ann Mas (husband Edward) of Pelican Lake, WI, Linda Boente (husband Jim) of Carlinville; 4 granddaughters - Amber St. Peters, Deidra Bellm, Laura Rosentreter, Ann Schmidt; grandson - Pete Olroyd IV; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his father, Walter S. Karrick, mother, Hazel Schuetz, step-father, Arthur Pete Schuetz, and one brother, Myrle Karrick. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Thursday, June 27, 2013, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013, at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Cliff Woodman, officiating. Burial will take place in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Guy Baird Post #554.
