Jake Joiner
93, of Carlinville passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Carlinville Area Hospital. Jake was born August 17, 1920, on South Broad St in Carlinville, IL and was a son of Thomas Earl and Mabel Mullins Joiner.
Joiner graduated from Carlinville High School, class of 1938, and was an all conferance football player and Captain of the football team in 1938. Jake worked in the Macoupin City Fairgrounds where he learned to operate heavy equipment and then went to Panama with the Army Engineers to build gun emplacements around the Panama Canal. Jake served his country in the Merchant Marines during WWII where he sailed on liberty cargo ships in the Atlantic, Indian Oceans, and Mediterranean Sea. Jake owned and operated Joiner Plumbing in Carlinville for 60 years, retiring in 1972, he then owned and operated "Corner Tap" in Carlinville. Jake also farmed in the Honey Point Township in the Carlinville Area. Jake was not only a farmer he was also a tavern owner, a bee keeper, and a sportsman. Jake was a member of BPOE 1412 for 40 years as well as Plumbers and Fitters Local 137 out of Springfield, IL.
Surviving are his daughter, Lynette Gail (Michael) Jones of Litchfield, IL; son, Scott Lindell (Karen) Joiner of Pembroke Pines, FL; grandchildren; Lesa Hart, Kristy Joiner, James & Blake Gowens, Melissa, Christopher & Tara Joiner, 5 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents; son, D.A. Joiner; brother, Evan Joiner; and sister, Barbara Bellm. Funeral Information
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday December 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Son, Scott Joiner will officiate. Burial will be in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the Guy Baird American Legion Post #554 in Carlinville, IL. Donations Information
