Obituary of Raymond L. Hays

Raymond L. Hays 84, of Girard, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Raymond was born Saturday, May 9, 1925 in North Otter Twsp., the Son of Lloyd M. and Eva (Wallace) Hays. He married Ethelene (Deatherage) in Carlinville, on November 26, 1949. Raymond entered the Army in 1943 and served in W.W. II until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Raymond was a grain and livestock farmer his lifetime in rural Girard and drove a school bus for Girard School District Unit 3 for 37 years. Raymond, in a quiet way was proud of his family and all who knew him, loved him. He loved and honored Ethelene for over 60 years of marriage. They enjoyed years of square dancing, watersking and snowmobiling. He could fix, rig, or cuss anything back into working order. Raymond loved the outdoors, deer hunting and helping others. Hays (Patty) of Girard, IL, Grandchildren, Phil Burnett (Beshka), Petersburg, Chad Burnett (Anna Waters), Nick Hays (Shannon), Katie Powell, (Jarrod),, and Taylor Hays, all of Girard, Five Great Grandchildren, Sister, Maxine Keltner of Waverly, IL, Sister, Emelene Batcheldor of Illiopolis, IL, Lester Hays of Erick, OK, Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Glenn and Melvin Hays and great grandson, Reddick Powell. Funeral Information Friends and family may call from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, February 25 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 26, 2010 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Girard. Legion services will be provided by Elmer E. Vance American Legion Post # 386, Virden. Donations Information Memorials may be made to the Girard Fire and Rescue Squad or to the Girard Community Building Fund.
