Elder Harris



age 82 of Palmyra, IL, went to be with his lord on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 in Palmyra, IL. He was born in Palmyra, MO., October 6, 1925 son of the late Grover Cleveland and Sarah Elizabeth (Shipley) Harris. He married Hilda Mae (Prior) on May 19, 1951 in Bentley, IL. and she died March 14, 2005. James started his employment at Alton Box Board in Alton, IL. After leaving his employment in Alton, he worked for the Northwestern School District for 17 years. He later became the Superintendent of the Palmyra Water & Sewer District. James became an ordained Primitive Baptist minister at the Pleasant View Primitive Baptist Church in rural Palmyra. He also pastored at the Liberty Church, Head of Apple Creek Church, Little Flock Church and Symra Church until his passing. James was a charter member of the Palmyra American Legion and the Zelmer Memorial Air Park. He served as a volunteer for the Northwestern Rescue Squad and the Palmyra Fire Department. James served his country in the Navy during W.W. #2. He served in Okinawa and was in the Pacific Theatre. Funeral Information



Family and friends may call, Sunday, August 17, 2008 from 3:00 to 7:00 at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008, 10:00 A.M. at Davis-Anderson with Elder Alan Curtis, James Ridings, and Jack Allen officiating.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, IL with full military honors given by the Palmyra American Legion. Donations Information
