Ruby Mae Gwillim
age 91 of Carlinville, IL passed away at 11:15 A.M. on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville.
Ruby was born on December 13, 1917 to Floyd and Marie (Loveless) Chism on the family farm in Bird Township in Hettick, IL.
She married George Gwillim in May, 1936, they divorced. She later married Clarence W. Gwillim in November, 1963. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1980.
Ruby was a retail clerk at Walkers 5 & 10 Dime Store and Bremer's from 1950 to 1963. Ruby retired in 1987 from Fashion Lane in Alton after working for 23 years.
Survivors include Sons Alfred Gwillim, wife Betty of Carlinville, IL and Jerry Gwillim, wife Joyce of Staunton, IL. Daughter Donna Morgan of Brighton, IL and Step Daughter Ellen Brown of Metairie, LA. Ruby had 10 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, several step great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
Preceding Ruby in death were her parents, children Floyd, Carol, Earl and Dale Gwillim, step son Clarence "Sonny" Gwillim. Also preceding in death was her brother Dale Chism.
Ruby was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville. When Ruby moved to Alton she joined the Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. She was past president of the Retail Clerks Union. Ruby loved to sew, garden and spend time with her family and her church family. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville with Rev. Thomas Goodell and Rev. Chad Ozee officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, IL. Burial in Charity Cemetery, rural Carlinville. Donations Information
