James Robert Garrison Sr.
86, of Girard, passed away Tuesday morning, October 16, 2012 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
James was born on August 1, 1926 to Jerry and Nellie (Karrick) Highley Garrison Fones in Carlinville. He served in both the United States Army and Navy from 1943 to 1946. James married Dorothy Girard on January 4, 1947 in Carlinville and she preceded him in death on June 4, 1994.
James worked for Rovey Seed Company in Farmersville and was also a farm hand in the area.
James is survived by 4 sons, James R. Garrison Jr. of Girard, Floyd W. Garrison (Deb) of Carlinville, Roy A. Garrison (Patricia) of Girard and Donald E. Garrison of Divernon; 2 daughters, Norma Jean Snelson (James) of Harvel and Janet M. Garrison of Girard; 21 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters - Julia Helen Rainey of Carlinville, Loraine Conway of CA and Ethel Jesse of Girard; brother, Ernie Garrison of OR; 1/2 brother, Roy Highley of CA and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Garrison; parents; 2 daughters Bonnie Jo Brachear and Carolyn Garrison; sons, Peter and Paul Garrison; sister, Martha Crays; brother, Donald Garrison; 1/2 brothers, Fred, Oscar, Stanley and Floyd Highley. Funeral Information
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Davis Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Rural Cemetery, Atwater, IL. Military Rites will be conducted by Guy Baird American Legion Post #544. Donations Information
