Obituary of Tony R. Eyer

Tony R. Eyer 75, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 18, 2013 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born on May 29, 1938 to Oscar Eyer and Loretta (Smith) Eyer-Turner in Palmyra, Illinois. He graduated from Virden High School with the class of 1957. On September 15, 1963 he married Mary C. Fear in Newton, Illinois. Tony started his working career at A & P Grocery in Carlinville at the age of 18, and was the assistant manager when he left. Tony served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. He then was the warehouse manager for Monterey Coal Company in Carlinville, retiring in 1993.He was a member of Guy Baird Post #554 American Legion in Carlinville as well as Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church. He loved gardening and spending time with his family. Tony chauffeured his grandkids to all their sporting and school activities. He also was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Tony is survived by his loving spouse of 49 years, Mary, 2 daughters - Lisa Killam (husband Rich) of Carlinville, Mary Beth Bellm (husband Brad) of Carlinville; 2 sons - Craig Eyer of St. Louis, Missouri, Brian Eyer (wife Audra) of Boonville, Missouri; 7 grandchildren - Alicia, Maddison, & Jessica Bellm, Jay & Dane Killam, and Joshua & Matthew Eyer; 2 great-grandchildren - Allie & Zoey Killam; brother - Olen "Tom" Eyer (wife Liz) of Jacksonville, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2013 from 5 - 7:00 pm at Ss Mary & Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville. A Prayer Service will follow at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at 11:00 am at the church, with Rev. Angel Sierra, officiating. Burial will take place in the New Calvary Cemetery. Donations Information Memorials are suggested to the Catholic Charities.
