Obituary of Robert G. Donaldson

Bob Donaldson age 80, of Girard passed away Sunday morning, December 5, 2010 at his residence in rural Girard. He was born Tuesday, October 7, 1930 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Damian and Thelma (May) Donaldson. Bob graduated from Morrisonville High School class of 1948. Bob started his employment career with Allis Chalmers in Springfield until joining the military and serving in the Army from 1951-1953 in Korea. Bob returned to AC in Springfield after his tour of duty until 1957 when he joined his father on the farm. He married Ruth Ann (Quinn) at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Virden by Msgr. Dirksen on January 19, 1963. Bob farmed in South Otter Township until his retirement in 2001. Bob was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Girard, 50 years member of the Morrisonville Knights of Columbus, Macoupin County Farm Bureau, South Otter Trustee for 38 years, Past Girard School Board Member and ANRA member. He served on the South Otter Drainage District and Advisory Board for the MJM Electric. Bob enjoyed drag racing with his 1932 Chevy Coupe,'65 Malibu "Green Stuff," bowling, riding his John Deere Bicycle, working crossword puzzels, and was also known as "Ranger Bob" founder of the Rt. 66 Turkey Tracks south of Nilwood. Bob was looking forward to traveling to San Francisco and crossing the Golden Gate Bridge by car. He had passed under and over the bridge in years past and wanted to travel by car before his passing. He was granted his wish by the "Dream Foundation" and was to leave in the next few days. Survivors: wife, Ruth Ann Donaldson of Girard, step-mother, Imogene Donaldson of Girard, daughter, Jean Ann Dugger of Girard, son, Mike Donaldson (Tammy) of Girard, son, Roger Donaldson (Camille) of Quincy, son, Eric Donaldson (Robin) of Girard, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brother, Tom Donaldson (Donna) of Plainview, sister, Janet Smith of Girard, sister, Mary Don Frey (Rick) of Sherman and step-sister, Marilyn Whited (Don) of West Aurora. He was preceded in death by parents, brother Larry Donaldson and step-brother, Kenneth Markillie. Funeral Information Visitation: 3:00-7:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 8 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard with prayer service at 2:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 9, 2010 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Girard with Rev. Daren Zehnle. Burial will be in West Cemetery in Thayer.
