Stuart Dobbs
80, of Carlinville, passed away Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013 at Friendship Home in Carlinville, IL.
Stuart was born on April 23, 1932 to Hugh and Sybil (Stevens) Dobbs in Springfield, IL. He married Elizabeth McGill in August 1958 in Springfield, IL and she preceded him in death on January 20, 2012.
Stuart graduated high school from Lake Forest Academy in 1950, and attended Duke University and the University of Illinois before entering the U.S. Army. He served in Germany in 1955-56. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1957 and from Northwestern University Law School in 1959. He practiced law in Chicago after graduation until he returned to Springfield in 1961 to join the law firm of Gillespie, Burke and Gillespie. In 1966, he and W.W. Denby established the firm of Denby and Dobbs. Before Stuart's retirement in 2001, his practice included partnerships with the Giffin, Winning law firm, Stratton, Dobbs and Nardulli, as well as his own practice in Carlinville. During his active trial practice, Dobbs represented the indigent and the affluent, individuals and corporations, public bodies, schools, and hospitals.
In civic affairs, Stuart served on the board of directors of Carlinville Area Hospital and was President of the Carlinville Area Hospital Association from 1980 to 1986. Dobbs served two terms on the Trustee's Council of the Illinois Hospital Association. Dobbs also served on the Carlinville Library Board and was a member of the Elks and American Legion. Dobbs served his church as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Federated Church in Carlinville. Dobbs was an avid golfer, a master griller, and a charter member of the MCLTL&GS.
Stuart is survived by his son, Stuart "Jay" Dobbs (Michelle) of Kirkwood, MO; daughter, Janet Dobbs of Carlinville; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bernice Rappel of Springfield, IL and Elsie Rogers of Scottsdale, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Sybil Dobbs and his wife, Elizabeth Dobbs. Funeral Information
