Obituary of Chester Stanfield

Chester L. "Chet" Stanfield, 81, of Carlinville, passed away Monday morning, June 6, 2016 at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL. Chester was born on April 27, 1935 to George and Marie (Long) Stanfield in Raymond, IL. He attended school at Carlinville High School. On June 30, 1956 he married Edna Pursey at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Greenfield, IL. Chet was the plant manager at Pepsi-Cola in Jerseyville, IL, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Chet was on the board of directors for the Macoupin County School for the Developmentally Disabled, and Carlinville Moose Lodge 1216, where he was acting treasurer. He was also a member of Carlinville BPOE 1412. Chet was a true outdoorsman, loving hunting and fishing. He collected Pepsi and toy tractor memorabilia. Chester is survived by his loving wife Edna, two 1/2 sisters; Ellen (Keith) Bamber of Peoria, IL and Vera (James) Williamson of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Virginia Stanfield of SC; and several nieces and nephews. Chester was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Stanfield. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 9, 2016, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville, IL, with a prayer service at 3:45 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016, at 10:00 am at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville, IL, with Rev. Michael Haag, officiating. Burial will take place in the New Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Macoupin County School for the Developmentally Disabled.
