Obituary of Richard Powell

Richard Glen Powell, 84, of Nilwood, passed away on Sunday morning December 6, 2015 at his residence in Nilwood, IL. Richard was born on November 15, 1931 to Irwing and Nellie (Gratton) Powell in Athens, IL. He graduated from Athens High School with the class of 1949. Richard served his country from 1951 thru 1954 in the U.S. Army, as a Sergeant during the Korean War. On May 1, 1954 he married Florence Chandler in Girard, IL. She preceded him in death on September 23, 1994. He later married Frances (Gratton) Hill in November 1999. She passed away on December 12, 2012. Richard worked for the Clark County School District in Nevada as a supervisor of transportation, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed fishing. Richard is survived by two sons, Gary Neil (Jodi) Powell of Las Vegas, NV and Richard Irwin (Michelle) Powell of Pahrump, NV; two daughters, Deborah Gay Powell (Jay Weaver) of Las Vegas, NV and Patricia Ann (Lenny) Goldstein of Nilwood, IL; 3 grandsons; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren; half-sister, Marjie Powell Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Irwing and Nellie Powell; wives, Florence and Frances Hill Powell; sisters, Norma J. Powell and Frances M. Harding. No service will be held for Richard. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard is in charge of arrangements.
