Donald Dean Stults, 78, of Chesterfield IL, passed away Saturday morning, July 25, 2026, at Methodist Southwest Hospital in Merriville, IN.

Don was born March 30, 1948, in Carlinville, IL, a son of Dean Stults and Alice (Wyzard) Stults. He graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1966 and then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He married Ilene (McCollum) Maurice on May 7, 2012, in Camdenton, MO.

He started his working career at Miller's Mutual in Alton, IL. Don then owned D & D Ford car dealership in Carlinville, until it burned. For a short time, he installed satellites for residential TV before cable became popular and also owned an Aamco transmission franchise in Merced, CA. Don sold insurance for Country Companies and Grange Insurance before opening his own independent insurance agency in Gold Beach, OR. He was able to retire in 2010 and moved back to the home place in Chesterfield, IL. He is a member of Rockbridge Global United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, mowing his property, and spending the winter months in Florida.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Nancy Stults.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Shiloh Cemetery, IL Route 108 west of Carlinville, IL with burial to follow. A meal and celebration of life will take place after the service at the Chesterfield Community Center.

Don is survived by his wife, Ilene Stults of Chesterfield, IL, daughter, Shelley (friend Robert Anderson) Ashlock of Atwater, CA, son, Bradley (Nicole) Stults of Cheshire, CT, son, Michael (Laura) Maurice of Bloomfield, MI, and son, Jeffrey (Onesty) Maurice of Granite Bay, CA; grandchildren, Alison (Sebastian) Stafford, Sarah (significant other Herman Arroyo) Scarpitto, Chloe Stults, Rory Stults, Xander Maurice, Olivia Maurice, and Madelyn Maurice.
